Friday Five

TGIF, my friends! It's finally Friday (and a payday, as well!), and I could NOT be happier. I know last Friday was a holiday, which is awesome, yes, but I really do love my Fridays at work, because it's more relaxed and we don't answer phones! Seriously, it sounds like a little thing, but not having the phones ring incessantly is a blessing! Anyway, on with the Friday Five List:

1.   So, did everyone have a fantastic, safe and sane 4th of July weekend? I did! I got to hang out with two of the most awesome women on this earth: Darlene and Pammie Sue! We spent the 4th at Pammie's house drinking wine on the patio, chatting, snacking, and watching comedians on the iPad. Sunday we wandered around downtown SLO, did some shopping, and had lovely drinkies at Novo. It was too brief a visit, but it was super fun, and it was nice to kind-of get away from it all!

2.  It's been MUCH cooler here on the Central Coast this week, which has been a welcome relief. The past two nights I haven't even had to have my window open at night! I've been sleeping much better, I think, because of that, even though I enjoy the cool, fresh, night air, and hearing the occasional cricket or hoot owl, the traffic noises are always jarring.

3.  So, I'm planning to buy a new all-in-one printer/scanner/copier. I have a separate printer and scanner right now, and they take up a  lot of space. I'd like to streamline my desk area a bit, so I can work on various scanning and photo printing projects. Do any of you have an all-in-one you could recommend, or have any experience - good or bad - with them? I'm mostly curious, as I've pretty much decided on this one, but if anyone has had some serious problems or issues with it or negative feelings of all-in-ones in general, I might reconsider. (Thanks in advance!)

4. So, this weekend is the Lavender Festival in Paso, but I don't think I'll go this year. I still have a lot of organizing to do at home, and while I mowed the front lawn last night, the backyard is getting a little out of hand, and might need to be tamed a bit. Also, I'd kinda like to save a free weekend for a trip to the beach, rather than just to Paso, especially considering I was just there in May for the Art Festival.

5. Here's another inspirational chalkboard message discovered at The Backyard behind Bru Coffeehouse. I'm not 100% sure what this message is supposed to convey, however. I mean, I get the "Live in the Sunshine" and "Swim the Sea", but "Drink the Wild Air"?, I'm a little confused. You can't really drink air, right? I mean, you can gulp air down sometimes when you're working out too hard, but that just makes one belchy, which isn't so much fun. Anyway, it's pretty, and, well, interesting!  I hope you all have a fantastic weekend, and I'll see you next week! Cheers!

Hepkat Purse Haul!

Hi, guys, and Happy Monday!!

Okay, so, I tried to do another TGIF vlog for you guys last week, but the video camera on my main computer wasn't working (why it suddenly disappeared when it was there two weeks ago, I'll probably never know!), so I did the video on my laptop which seemed to work perfect. However, while the camera worked on that one, the audio didn't, so I did a whole almost-ten-minute-long video about a miserable week I'd recently suffered through (and the retail therapy that got me to the end with my sanity intact) with no sound!!

Gah!

Anyway, the highlight of my video was a pair of cool new purses I picked up at Hepkat's in downtown SLO (after enjoying a pomegranate martini, some stuffed mushrooms, and a Caesar salad at Palazzo Giuseppe's.  Delicious!!). I've always loved browsing at Hepkat's - it's a super fun, cool, retro, rockabilly clothing and accessory shop, and I usually want to buy at least 1 of everything. And, this time I did buy two items: two cool purses!

The first one looks orange in the photo, but it's actually a bright, sparkly red. It's a retro style kiss-lock purse by Lux De Ville that reminded me so much of a purse my grandmother used to have in the '70s, I couldn't resist it!

I doubt I'd use this as an everyday bag, though there is plenty of space inside for a my wallet, phone, and even a small paperback as well as my "readers". But, I kind of see this as my super fun Friday (TGIF!!), or special occasion purse.

My everyday purse is a cross-body messenger bag by Trophy Queen. I picked the multi-coloured Mexican blanket style that I think will go with a lot of my outfits, and is bright and summery. There's tons of room inside for lots of stuff, and I particularly love the faux leopard fur!

I very nearly purchased a third bag, as they had several very cool totes with skulls, three of which I was seriously debating buying, but I actually restrained myself and kept it to just these two, because I'm mentally strong that way.

Ha!

Okay, the truth is I was just really overwhelmed by the choices, and couldn't decide which skull tote to buy, so I just paid for the two purses I had chosen (and those choices were hard enough, because they kept pulling more awesome stuff out of the back!), and left. With that awesome "shoppers' high" you just don't get with online shopping! I will probably go back and get a skull tote eventually, but I think I'll hold off until September or October when I will probably be ready to put the summery messenger bag  in storage for the season.

Oh, I also did some fragrance shopping at Sephora, but I'll save that for another post. For now, have a great week, I'll try to get my vlogging issues straightened out, and I'll see you all later! Cheers!

First Friday Five of 2014

Well, well, well, lookie what I remembered to do! I'm sure it's been several weeks since I did a Friday Five - maybe months! - but, hey, it's never too late to pick something up again right?  Anyway, last night I went to SLO Farmer's Market for the first time in forEVer ( so I think it might count as an "Adventure"!), and it was so. much. fun! I had a light dinner at Novo, browsed a few shops, heard some awesome music, and purchased some beautiful produce I'm looking forward to roasting this weekend. In light of that, I decided to share a few observations from the evening:

1.  First off, something completely randon: I think I might like Hendrick's Gin more than Tanqueray.

2.  Marston Smith - The Lord of the Cello - is totally awesome and amazing and has fantastic fashion sense.

3.  Hands Gallery still owns my heart and my wallet.

4.  Downtown SLO is hipper and cooler than I remember it, and that's saying a LOT because it's always been pretty hip and cool!

5.  I'm going to have to do Farmer's Market again. Soon. Maybe even make it a monthly outing. I forgot how much fun it is!

 Have a great weekend! Cheers!

G is for Green #bloggingfromatoz

For today's entry for the Blogging from A to Z Challenge I'm on the letter G and chose to feature the colour Green.  We didn't get all that much rain during the regular winter season, but have been getting some late storms this spring and are even expecting some rain to show up sometime this evening and continue through the rest of the week! A lot of people are grumbling and groaning about it, sick to death of the cold, wet weather, and longing for springtime and sunshine, but I'm excited! For one thing, if it really does rain, and we get a good soaking, I can skip watering the front lawn and backyard plants for another week, which will save me some money. For another thing, I love how beautiful and fresh and green the hillsides have become since we've had rain. Here are some shots of the surrounding area I took on the commute home last night and early this morning.  Enjoy!

Day 8: Sun #febphotoaday #instagram

Today's subject for February Photo a Day was sun. Good thing it was today instead of yesterday when the sun never did come out and it was just cloudy and grey and windy and cold. Today is shaping up to be quite lovely! This sun shot was taking early this morning just as the sun was peeking over the hills. Initially I was bummed the windows on the bus were so dirty (and eventually fogged over with the breath of 30+ people!), but in the end, I think the picture came out really cool!
