Hello, fellow readers!! Since I took the month of September off from the internet - a wonderful and well-deserved break from the madness! - I have three teasers to share with you this week.  Enjoy!

1. Nightbird by Alice Hoffman, page 53 on my nook:

"And more importantly, we have a secret that binds us together," Julia said solemnly. I looked at her and she nodded. "I saw James."

2. When We Were Animals by Joshua Gaylord, page 144 on my nook:

I knew that repetitions of three had power to them. And if you could summon Bloody Mary by uttering her name three times in a mirror, then I reckoned you could summon a lost girl in a similar way.

3.  Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne, page 94 - 95

But Mr. Fogg, far from being discouraged, was continuing to search, resolved not to stop if he had to resort to Macao, when he was accosted by a sailor on one of the wharves.

"Is your honour looking for a boat?"

I hope everyone has a terrific week! Cheers!

Good morning and happy Tuesday! I finished reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up last Friday, and found it has kind of inspired me to, well, tidy up! While I probably won't be going nuts and talking to my stuff, or getting rid of everything I own a la, the KonMari method, I do have a few days off from work coming up, and plan to spend the time reducing  the amount of my belongings dramatically. Starting with the book itself. Does this spark joy? Hmm. We shall see!

Anyway, this week I'm reading a YA novel called The Unintentional Time Traveller by Everett Maroon. I'm just a few chapters into it, but so far I'm really enjoying it! I've always enjoyed time travel books, and this one has a pretty good twist I'm finding interesting and entertaining! Here are my teasers from page 39 on my nook:

"I'm fine, mom."

"You are not fine. You haven't been fine since that day in the lab."

So, what are you reading this week? Let me know in the comments! Have a great Tuesday! Cheers!

Teaser Tuesday: The Curiosity by Stephen P. Kiernan

Today I finished The Time Tutor, and since I had a few minutes left on my commute, decided to choose and start a new book. I've had The Curiosity on my nook for months, if not longer, and decided it was time to finally give it a shot! I don't even remember what it's about, or what about the description urged me to buy it! The cover art is intriguing, though. Maybe that was enough. Anyway, here's my teaser from page 9:

May I say that it was amazing? That we uncovered solid truth in a vast empire of unknown? That we found something to arresting, it captures the attention of the world?

Happy Tuesday! Cheers!

Teaser Tuesday: Evergreen by Rebecca Rasmussen

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

This week I'm back to reading on my nook, and discovered I'd downloaded a new Rebecca Rasmussen book, Evergreen. I really enjoyed The Bird Sisters, so I am very excited to read this book! I got to chapter four this monring on the bus, and already I'm 100% invested in Emil and Eveline's story! Here are some teasers from page 21:

Eveline wondered what had happened to all the Yellow Falls girls who got married and moved south to Minneapolis and sometimes as far as Chicago, places that seemed like they were part of another world now. On a map, hunderds of rural miles separated her from them, but this distinction seemed more pressing than inches on a map: in Eveline's world girls talked to birds, and in the other one they talked to one another.

Yes, so far at least, there are birds in this book, too! It's quite delightful! Happy Tuesday! Cheers!

Riverman2

Happy Tuesday, fellow Teasers! This week I'm reading a truly delightful book called The Riverman by Aaron Starmer. I really like this guy's books! Last year, I believe it was, I read The Only Ones, and really enjoyed it. I love his fantastical stories and his interesting characters. Here are my teasers from page 25 on Nicky the nook:

Sometimes I wondered if that was my problem, an abundance of cluttered rooms in my mind. She had me pegged, though, and she had me worried. "You're only twelve," I said. "Why do you need a biography?"

Have a great day and great rest of the week! Cheers!

Ghostbride

This week I'm finally starting a new book: The Ghost Bride by Yangsze Choo. It's been so long since I downloaded this to Nicky the nook, I didn't even remember what it was about, but so far it's quite a good story.  Here are my teasers from page 312:

I wished that I had never seen his face, yet it was seared into my memory. He had warned me not to look at him. Why had I not listened?

This week I'm reading a book of short stores called At the Mouth of the River of Bees: stories by Kij Johnson. It's been awhile since I'd read short stories, and I'd forgotten how much I enjoy them. These are quirky, interesting, strange, fantastical stories - right up my alley! - so I like them even more! Here's my teaser from page 12.The story is the very first one in the book "26 Monkeys; Also the Abyss". Enjoy!

What Aimee likes about this life:

It doesn't mean anything. She doesn't live anywhere. Her world is 38 feet and 127 shows long and currently 26 monkeys deep. This is manageable.

This week I'm reading the delightful book The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman. It's magical, mysterious, scary, fun, and wonderful! The more I read this guy's books, the more I like him.  I previously read The Graveyard Book, and really liked that, too, so I might have to check out more of his work.

Here are my teasers from page 73/74:

"Oh, sweety-weety-pudding-and-pie, you are in so much trouble."

She was smiling, the hugest, toothiest grin I had ever seen on a human face, but she did not look amused.

"I need to talk to you," he whispered, glancing back over his shoulder. "It's important, and you're the only one who might be able to help. Please, you gotta let me in."

So, what are you reading this week?
