End of the Year Meme 2016

So, I've been doing this End-of-the-Year Meme for several years now. I almost didn't bother with it this year, since the questions are the same each year, and for the most part, so are my answers. However, it's become a tradition, and it's fairly easy, so I figured why not! (Also, if anyone knows of a newer or different End-of-the-Year questionnaire type of thing, let me know in the comments! I wouldn't mind trying something different next year!)

  • What did you do in 2016 that you’d never done before?

Visited the International Rose Test Garden and the Japanese Garden with Darlene in Portland, OR, and visited the city of Cincinnati, OH with Julie, and saw Impressionist paintings from Daubigny, Monet, Van Gogh, and Pissarro at the wonderful Taft Museum of Art.

  • Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I don't even remember what I resolved to do, so probably not! As for 2017, I haven't decided yet.

  • Did anyone close to you give birth?

 No.

  • Did anyone close to you die?

No, thank God!

  • What countries did you visit?

None this year.

  • What would you like to have in 2017 that you lacked in 2016?

Gumption.

  • What dates from 2016 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

Early March when I went to Weetacon then got to hang out with Julie in Cincinnati, and mid-August when I visited Darlene in Portland.

  • What was your biggest achievement of the year?

I can't think of a single thing I achieved this year.

  • What was your biggest failure?

Not selling any of my perfectly nice things on eBay.

  • Did you suffer illness or injury?

Nothing new, no.

  • What was the best thing you bought?
  • My Kia Soul (I named her Roxanne, or Roxy for short.)
  • Whose behavior merited celebration?
  • Pretty much everyone I work with. We have a difficult job, yet everyone stays upbeat, positive, and continues to provide great customer service even to the most difficult customers!
  • Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

All the whiney, fragile snowflakes who freaked out after Donald Trump won the election and had to pet "comfort animals" and play with Play-Doh because they were so "traumatized", and all the Universities who coddled those worthless wimps.

  • Where did most of your money go?

My totally awesome, super fun vacations to Green Bay, WI, Cincinnati, OH, and Portland, OR, and to my new car!

  • What did you get really, really, really excited about.

See above...

  • What song will always remind you of 2016?

"Priceless" by For King and Country. It seemed to be playing on all my favourite radio stations at least once every day for months! But, that's okay, it's a fantastic song!

  • Compared to this time last year, are you:
  • a) happier or sadder

about the same.

  • b) thinner or fatter?

about the same.

  • c) richer or poorer?
  •  poorer.
  • What do you wish you’d done more of?

Going to the beach, sightseeing locally. (Those might be my 2017 New Year's Resolutions!)

  • What do you wish you’d done less of?

Watching TV, sleeping.

  • How did you spend Christmas?

Relaxing with my mom, eating chips, salsa, and guacamole, and chicken enchiladas while drinking margaritas and watching "It's a Wonderful Life".

  • Did you fall in love in 2016?

No.

  • What was your favorite TV program?

Designated Survivor - awesome show!!

  • Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

Yes.

  • What was the best book you read?

I didn't really read much this year, but I did enjoy The Scene of the Climb by Kate Dyer-Seeley.

  • What was your greatest musical discovery?

Jordan Feliz

  • What did you want and get?

A new car.

  • What did you want and not get?

A peaceful election.

  • What was your favorite film of this year?

I just saw Rogue One, and it's amazing!

  • What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I don't remember what I did on my birthday, so I probably just stayed home and relaxed!

  • What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
  • If people had not been such assholes to each other during the election
  •  How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2016?

I bought whatever was cute, comfortable, and affordable.

  • What kept you sane?
  • Staying off social media during the election!
  • Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Hmm. I can't really think of anyone special this year.

  • What political issue stirred you the most?

The election this year stirred everyone up this year, I think. We lost, yes, but I wish people would calm down, because it's all going to be okay. It's only 4 years after all!

  • Who did you miss?

My grandparents and my dad.

  • Who was the best new person you met?

No one that I can recall. I pretty much hung out with the same folks.

  • Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2016.

Follow your heart and beliefs regardless of what other people - even your closest family and best friends - tell you to think.

End-of-the-Year Meme 2015

Hey, hi! It's time for my annual End-of-the-Year Meme! I've been doing this meme for a dozen years or so, and I think it's kinda fun. Enjoy!

  • What did you do in 2015 that you’d never done before?

Yoga. Specifically a ballet yoga hybrid which was really fun!

  • Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I actually did a pretty good job of keeping up with my Resolutions this year - my health and fitness is better than this time last year, I did some stamping, but also got rid of lots of stamps I wasn't using, and I got rid of TONS of make-up, and have done a really good job of not buying more. I'll probably make more resolutions next year, just because it's a habit!

  • Did anyone close to you give birth?

No.

  • Did anyone close to you die?

No, thank God!

  • What countries did you visit?

None this year.

  • What would you like to have in 2016 that you lacked in 2015?

Confidence.

  • What dates from 2015 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

July 4th when I got to hang out with a couple friends, and October 15th when I saw the amazing Chris de Burgh in concert!

  • What was your biggest achievement of the year?

I think I made it though the year without being terribly sick. Maybe one cold? I think.

  • What was your biggest failure?
  • Not doing more Yoga once the class I was taking ended.
  • Did you suffer illness or injury?

Nothing more than usual. I was diagnosed (finally!) with degenerative arthritis, for which I have been receiving treatment this year. The treatment is working really well, and while I'll never be 100% healthy ever again, I'm better than I was a year ago, and now that I've accepted that I can move forward.

  • What was the best thing you bought?
  • A TempurFlex mattress with an adjustable base.
  • Whose behavior merited celebration?
  • My cousin Jess and her husband, who took in a couple foster children. I think they're nuts, because OMG the CHAOS!!, but God bless them for being so giving and selfless!
  • Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
  • No one specific, just the usual a-hole politicians and fame-starved reality "celebrities" being obnoxious.
  • Where did most of your money go?

Clothes and shoes.

  • What did you get really, really, really excited about

Chris de Burgh concert in Cupertino - SO awesome!

  • What song will always remind you of 2015?
  • I have to say Taylor Swift's "Shake it Off" because it was the song that played during our ab workout in Ballet Yoga, and I don't think I have ever crunched that hard!
  • Compared to this time last year, are you:
  • a) happier or sadder

a little happier.

  • b) thinner or fatter?

a little thinner.

  • c) richer or poorer?

a little richer.

  • What do you wish you’d done more of?

Stamping, going to the beach, travelling.

  • What do you wish you’d done less of?

Watching TV.

  • How did you spend Christmas?

Relaxing with my family.

  • Did you fall in love in 2015?

No.

  • What was your favorite TV program?

I loved Empire, Z Nation, Dark Matter, and Poldark.

  • Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

Yes.

  • What was the best book you read?

The Life-Changing Magic of Tyding Up by Marie Kondo. Seriously, this book changed my life!

  • What was your greatest musical discovery?

The Warning, a trio of awesome little rockers!

  • What did you want and get?

I've wanted for years to see Chris de Burgh in concert, and finally, this year, I did! Best. Night. EVER!

  • What did you want and not get?

I wanted to be physically back to where I was in 2013, but that's never going to happen. I'm just thrilled to be able to be as active as I am.

  • What was your favorite film of this year?

Jurassic World was awesome!

  • What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I don't remember what I did on my birthday, so I probably just stayed home and relaxed!

  • What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
  • I would loved to have been able to do a 5k, but, alas, it was not to be. I hope to do at least one next year!
  • How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2015?

I'm going to go with trendy, because I bought a few trendy pieces at the beginning of each season, and usually got rid of them by the beginning of the next when I bought "the next big thing". It wasn't that I was obsessed with having the latest style or trend, it was just fun, and if I could afford it, I bought it!

  • What kept you sane?
  • Getting a good night's sleep!
  • Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

That Aiden Turner in the new Poldark series was quite hunky and a joy to look at! (But, Robin Ellis will always be MY Poldark!)

  • What political issue stirred you the most?

I've learned to keep my political (and religious, and social) views to myself.

  • Who did you miss?

My Weetacon friends, and my BFFs Jewel, DeeDee and Pammie Sue.

  • Who was the best new person you met?

We got a new girl at work this year who just jumped in with both feet, caught on quickly, and has been an amazing asset to our little group!

  • Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2015.

Don't ever take your health or physical abilities for granted because one day they may be gone (or at least extremely limited!).

Do you fill out the same meme each year? Or just a Yearly Recap? Let me know in the comments, cause I'd love to read it! Cheers!

End-of-the-Year Meme 2014

Wow, it's that time of year again when I fill out this survey. I've been doing this meme for, gosh, I don't know how many years, but it's been a lot. Trust me! Anyway, here's the list for this year. Enjoy!

1. What did you do in 2014 that you’d never done before? Participated in not one, not two, but FOUR 5k races. No, I didn't run them, I walked them, but I did them, nonetheless! I also learned how to tap dance!

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year? Well, here's my 2014 NYRs , and I actually managed to keep a few of them. While I didn't run a 5k, I did, as stated previously, walk four of them. That's pretty cool! I also took some great pictures (check out my Instagram!), and took a few chances and read a few pretty awesome books!

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Well, a lady at work just had a (totally adorable!) baby just a couple weeks ago, but I don't know her too well, so I don't know if it counts or not.

4. Did anyone close to you die? This year? No. Thank Jesus. No.

5. What countries did you visit? Canada. I had a fantastic trip to Victoria, B.C. with a couple great friends.

6. What would you like to have in 2015 that you lacked in 2014? My good health back i.e., freedom of movement without difficulty or pain. I just want to be able to move again.

7. What dates from 2014 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? May 31, July 4, July 19, November 14. ALl dates I participated and finished a 5k race.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Finishing four 5k races.

9. What was your biggest failure? Not writing more. Poetry, essay, memoir, fiction, whatever, I wish I'd written more.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? I've been sick for a year and a half, but nothing new, no.

11. What was the best thing you bought? A fabulous little nightstand that perfectly matches the bedroom set I got from my mom, which was my parents' original bedroom set from the mid-60s! It was quite a task to hunt one down, but I did, and it looks amazing!

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? No one person, really; most of my family and friends are pretty cool!

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?  Looters, thieves, politicians, bloggers, and everyone who took advantage of a really horrible situation in Ferguson, MI.

14. Where did most of your money go? A truly awesome vacation, and a pretty cool bedroom redecorating.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

b) thinner or fatter? Thinner. I couldn't work out as hard as I wanted, but I still worked out. I've also slowly but surely improved my diet.

21. Did you fall in love in 2014? Don't be silly.

22. What was your favorite TV program? Oh, wow, I can't pick just one, so sit back, relax, and enjoy my list: Marvel: Agents of Shield, The Walking Dead, Z Nation, Face Off, Project Runway (including all off shoots), Forever, Gotham, Sleepy HollowThe Mysteries of Laura, Doctor Who (classic series currently airing on MyRetro TV), and The Librarians.

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? No. I pretty much hate the same people this year as I always have.

24. What was the best book you read? The Taste of Apple Seeds by Katharina Hagena. I just loved this book. It was so beautifully written. Lyrical. Poetic. It might be a bit odd for some folks, but it was right up my alley!

25. What was your greatest musical discovery? I didn't really make any new discoveries this year. I pretty much listened to the same old stuff.

26. What did you want and get? A 2014 Ford Mustang Convertible (as a rental to drive across Washington state! So fun!)

27. What did you want and not get? Um, nothing, really. I got pretty much everything I wanted, and really didn't want for much.

28. What was your favorite film of this year?  I didn't see too many movies this year. I did just see Exodus, and it was pretty good.

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? My birthday was January 4th (and will be again, very soon!), and I turned 48. I spent the day at Avila Beach, CA, dipped my toes in the mighty Pacific, and chose the word "Adventure" as my word for 2014.

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? A doctor who believes I have polymyalgia rheumatica despite being under age 70, and the necessary medication (at the necessary amount) to be completely cured of the disease.

32. What kept you sane? Working out and sleeping.

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? I didn't really fancy anyone this year. No one specific, anyway.

34. What political issue stirred you the most? Nothing I will share publicly. I keep my political views to myself. It's NOYB.

35. Who did you miss? My grandparents. Still.

36. Who was the best new person you met? Ashleigh Bayard, owner of Eleve Barre in Atascadero. She offered some great dance classes, and I was lucky enough to be able to try a few. I hope I'll be able to try more next year.

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2014. You can't trust anyone but family.

Cheers!
