Friday Five January 29

Good LORD what a busy week! I seriously think those five planets lining up in the sky are wreaking havoc with everyone and everything around here! That full moon earlier this week didn't help, either! Anyway, here's five random things about my week:

1.  Speaking of the planets aligning, I actually got to see it Monday morning and again this morning as I was waiting for the bus! The sky was perfectly clear, and the sun was just coming up, and I was able to see all five planets! Sadly, I didn't get a picture (and only had my phone, so it wouldn't have come out good even if I'd tried), but I guess they're supposed to be lined up for another month, so I'll hopefully have more opportunities! Did you get to see it? Or get a picture? I'd love to know and see your shot!

2.  So, I signed up for Thingadailies next month. It's run by the same folks who bring you Holidailies every December, but this time instead of just posting on your blog every day, you make something every day. Then post it on your blog. I'm not sure how well I'll do at this one since I work away from home full time, but I'm going to give it a shot!

3.  I'm also considering doing A Month of Letters next month as well. As with Thingadailies, I don't know how many hand-written letters I'll actually manage to mail out (the goal is one a day),  but even if it's just four or five for all of February, it should be pretty fun to try!

4.  Seriously, how is it the end of January already?!? I'm nowhere near writing up a Favourites post for January, and just realized I don't think I ever posted my New Year's Resolutions! Ha! I guess that means I don't have to do anything this year!

5.  So I finally went to get my vision checked and ordered a new pair of glasses. I'm pretty excited! While I love my specks by La Font, I found an awesome new pair from Face a Face! Can't wait to show y'all!

I hope everyone had a terrific week, and are ready for an awesome weekend! Cheers!

Teaser Tuesday: Spark Joy: An Illustrated Master Class on the Art of Organizing and Tidying Up by Marie Kondo

Teasertuesdays2014e

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm.  Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

•Grab your current read.

•Open to a random page.

â€˘Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page. (I tend to go over this limit a LOT!)

•BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)

•Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week I'm reading Spark Joy: An Illustrated Master Class on the Art of Organizing and Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. It's a companion book to The Life-Changing Magic of tidying Up, which I've mentioned a few times over the course of last year. While she reiterates many of the practices and philosophies from Life-Changing Magic, Marie Kondo provides some updates in Spark Joy, answers many questions she's received since the first book was published, and includes some illustrations showing how to fold various items and organize drawers. Definitely read the first book first, but I do recommend this as a follow-up. Here's my teaser from page 12 on my nook:

The tidying process you are about to embark on is not about decluttering your house or making it look neat on the spur of the moment for visitors. Rather, you are about to tidy up in a way that will spark joy in your life and change it forever.

So what are you reading this week? Let me know in the comments! Cheers!

Friday Five January 22

TGIF!!! Why is it the short weeks are always the longest? I had Monday off for MLK Day - which was great! - BUT, trying to get five days worth of work done in four days is always a pain! It seems like it's worse when the holiday falls on a Monday, because I don't recall the last two weeks of 2015 being this hectic. Anyway, we made it to Friday, and here are five random thoughts for you.

1.   As I mentioned before, Monday was pretty awesome: I had the day off, so I got to sleep in, drink lots of coffee (before it goes cold!), and got to catch up on my soaps!

2.  My mom dumped the rain gauge (which she said was at 3") on Thursday, so I didn't get a picture of our weekly rain total, which is a bummer, but I'm sure we'll be getting plenty more rain before the El Nino season is over.

3.  I love that the sky is lightening just a little bit each morning and staying light a little bit each evening. It makes each day a little less depressing!

4.  I'm planning another crafting weekend, and hope to get some more Weetacon Charity Raffle Items made - should be fun!

5.  This morning there was an absolutely GORGEOUS sunrise! Sadly I was on the bus, so the pictures have the lights reflecting off the window, but you can still see just how spectacular it was.

So, what are you up to this weekend? Any fun plans? Let me know in the comments! Cheers!

5th

So, I've been reading The 5th Wave for a couple weeks now, and have really been enjoying it! I understand it's been made into a movie, which is pretty exciting! I haven't been to a movie in ages (seriously meant to go see the new Star Wars film, but never got around to it; probably too late now!), but I might have to go see this one! Anyway, here's my teaser for this week from page 100 on my nook:

The world was ripping apart. And pieces of the wreckage were raining all around me.

It was the beginning of the 4th Wave.

So, what are you reading this week? Let me know in the comments down below! Cheers!

Crafting Weekend

So, we had a kind-of rainy 3-day weekend, and since we really couldn't go outside, we used the time to do some crafts. I've had packets of polymer clay in my crafting supplies for years, but never got around to making the dolls I'd originally planned on. I tore out a clay project from an old Better Homes and Gardens magazine, so mom and I rolled out some clay and made a few necklaces, and tried to make some bowls. The necklaces came out pretty good, imo, and I think they might become Weetacon Charity Raffle items. My only concern with them is that the necklace pieces I used aren't hooking together as well as I'd like. I'm afraid pieces will fall off. Anyone with jewelry-making skills out there, any suggestions you have for keeping the rings closed would be greatly appreciated!

None of the stamps I have left really worked for the projects, but I had a couple metal heart-shaped cutters in small and large, and used those instead. I also had one set of rubber stamp alphabet left to use to stamp the word LOVE in some of the clay. They'll go with the two hearts and a small key charm for a pretty little necklace.

I also tried my doll face to see what that looked like, as well as using my wax letter seal to see make a couple "medalions". None of these really turned out very well, so I"ll probably just chuck them, but it was fun to try and really great to finally use stuff up!

All the clay I have has to be baked in the oven, so the bowls didn't turn out as cute as I'd hoped. I need to get some air dry clay and use some of my smaller dishes for cuter shaped. I also found some other fun projects to make with clay, and I'm looking forward to trying those as well.

How was your 3-day weekend? Did you go anywhere? Do anything fun? Or, just chill? Whatever you did, I hope you had a great time, and got to spend time with loved ones! Cheers!
