Greetings and happy Teaser Tuesday! This week I'm reading Shine Shine Shine by Lydia Netzer.  It's another library book and I'm really enjoying it, so I'll have to renew it because it's due tomorrow! Here's my teasers from page 117:

Sunny was pregnant, just getting used to the feeling of a wig on her head, and just getting used to the feeling of another person moving around inside her, nourished from her bloodstream, holding its breath, waiting to emerge. She was really trying to make everything all right for the baby to come out. She was really trying to correct the wrongs that had been established in the universe, all of the missing fathers and the baldness and the condition people kindly called "eccencricity" now that Maxon was a millionaire.

You Capture: A Photo a Day

Last week's challenge for You Capture was to take a photo each day and share them all at the end of the week. Well, I'm a little late, but I went ahead and did a photo a day this week and here they are! (Some of you may have seen one or two of these if you follow me on Instagram or follow Sepia Scenes on my blog.)

Sunday: a photo of a trio of delicious tomatoes from my garden.

Monday: I went to the dentist for my 6 month cleaning and exam. It was time for X-rays this time and I finally rememberd to get a picture of them! And, in case you're interested, my teeth and gums are - according to both the hygenist and the dentist - FANTASTIC!!! It's a great improvement from just a few years ago when I had severe periodontal disease and was at risk of losing my teeth.

Brush and floss, people. Brush and floss!

Tuesday: there was a lovely sunrise with some awesome clouds and I couldn't resist!

Wednesday: this is my entry from Sepia Scenes. (I don't think this meme is being updated anymore, but I enjoy doing sepia photos, so I'm still doing it once a week)

Thursday:

I had an appointment at my opthamologist on Thursday and got this interesting shot of some of their equipment. This appointment, much like my dental appointment on Monday, was FANTASTIC!!! Dr. S. found no inflammation in either eye, and my vision had improved. I don't have to see him for another four months, and hopefully things will continue to go well so I can finally get some distance glasses!!

Friday:

I got this shot of a lovely flowering tree on my iPhone while taking a walk along Mill Street today. I used the Diana filter in Camera+ for the dreamy effect!

Saturday:

A new discount designer clothing store just opened up in Atascadero, so I had to check it out. I found these amazing shoes. I didn't buy them, though; they're cute as heck, but I'd break my ankle if I were to actually try to walk in them!

Attack of the {Deliciously} Killer Tomatoes

OMG. Check out this garden:

Garden1
It's huge and we're suddenly getting tons of produce!

Both pepper plants are going strong. The little one has some baby peppers and blossoms, and the bigger one has several big peppers that are slowly going red. I left them and just took a nice big green bell and a couple little ones that were slightly burned.

And, the tomatoes! Holy cow! The Big Beef tomato plant has exploded! Although none of the toms are very big, they're very red and juicy and delicious!

My Bush Goliath tomato plant, however, has several very good sized toms, most of which were ready to harvest today, too. Although they're not ginormous, either (I think it's been too hot and they're ripening faster than they're growing), they are the best tasting tomatoes I've ever had!

And, I love this awesome harvest bag from Fiskars!

I was lucky to have it today as I ended up harvest a LOT of tomatoes and really needed something other than the bottom of my shirt to carry them in.

Here's my haul in all its bright red glory:

Teaser Tuesday: Year Zero by Rob Reid

Zero
Last week I ran over to the library and picked up a real live book (!!) that at least one critic compared to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, one of my all-time favourite reads. Naturally I was intrigued, and so far I must say it is living up to the hype. Not that it's any better (or could ever possibly BE better) than Hitchhiker's Guide, but it has a similar humour that I'm enjoying immensely. Here's s my teaser for Year Zero by Rob Reid from page 111:

"So that one little law," I marveled, "has turned the entire universe ... on its head."

"It has," Carly said. "Which is why we think someone's about to destroy the Earth."

F is for Food #allaboutme #lovekate

This week, F is for food. I love food - not just cooking it and eating it, but photographing it, too, as many of you have noticed over the years! My food pix are not fancy - although the food itself sometimes is! - they won't be appearing in Food and Wine or Sunset or even Eating Light or Clean Eating magazines. That's not the point. The point is that I enjoy sharing some of the delicious -and yes, beautiful - meals I've had.

I can't remember exactly when it started, but I do know one of my earliest food photos was at the 2002 San Francisco JournalCon. We were at a lovely Chinatown restaurant (the name of which I've forgotten) and were told regarding the following "eat it like a taco":

  Eatitlikeataco2002

In 2005 I took a trip with my BFF Jewel to San Juan Capistrano where we had an amazingly delicious (and beautiful!) meal at The Tea House:

Then in 2007 we went to Niagara Falls and had this gorgeous lunch at The Table Rock Restaurant:

I've visited Green Bay, Wisconsin several times over the past few years, and the most fabulous meal has got to be the homemade chicken booyah and brats and candied pretzels with pineapple fluff made by the beautiful and fantastic June!PicMonkey Collage3

But it's not all just brats and beer in Green Bay. There are also some fabulous restaurants that serve vegetarian and vegan dishes as well. One of my favourite restaurants is The RAWstraunt, which specilizes in "raw" food (which means nothing is cooked over 104°). This raw cake was not only delicious, but beautiful as well:

I don't just photograph restaurant food, though. I also like to take snapshots of meals I've cooked. Lately I've been cooking several recipes from the Clean Eating magazine, such as this Smokey Pork Chop:

 Cheers, and bon appetit!

Teaser Tuesday: Mannequin: A Short Story by Susan Helene Gottfried

Today I read a short story called Mannequin by Susan Helene Gottfried. I just finished This Is Not A Testbefore the bus got to SLO, and really didn't want to start another book on Nicky because I'm picking up a couple novels from the library this afternoon. And, I didn't feel like just sitting there looking out the window watching the world go by, dreading going to work, so I loaded up this short story I've had on my nookshelf for a while, and read the whole thing before getting to the bus stop.

"Let's go see what Ken's up to today," Lynne's dad would say to her, putting his hand on the back of her head. It was supposed to be a gesture of affection, but the real love came from the way Lynne's dad called the mannequin Ken.
