Teaser Tuesday: Catching Up

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

•Grab your current read
•Open to a random page
•Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
•BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
•Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

It appears I have some catching up to do! I've read three books (and finished one I started a long time ago and profiled in an earlier Teaser Tuesday entry) in the past few weeks, but haven't had time to do a Teaser Tuesday since the beginning of the month. Since they've all been pretty good books, I wanted to share them, so I decided to combine them into one entry. They are: Stiltsville by Susanna Daniel, Purple Daze by Sherry Shahan, and Patient Zero by Jonathan Maberry. Here are my teasers:

Stiltsvilleblogsize From Stiltsville, page 122:

After I handed over a check for $200, which committed me to the team for one twelve-week season, I left the tennis center and stood on the sidewalk outside the fence that enclosed the courts. The air smelled of gardenias and was filled with the hollow popping sound of balls hitting rackets, and I was suddenly, overwhelmingly satisfied with myself.

4:40 a.m.

I climb in, smelling like cigarettes                                                                                                                                  and beer. Hickey on my neck,                                                                                                                                          no doubt.

My knee bumps the dinner bell                                                                                                                                            tied to the shade. The hall light                                                                                                                                           flicks on.

Busted!

Patientzero
From Patient Zero, page 109:

"If a person receives a fatal bite then shortly after clinical death the desease reactivates the central nervous system, and, to a limited degree, some organ functions, and the victim rises as a new carrier. If a person receives even a mild bite the infection will kill them in about seventy hours, which at best gives us three days to locate any victims and contain them."

The Sky: Yesterday and Today

Our weather has been odd but interesting lately. Yesterday it was hot & humid. Disgusting! There were thunderstorms in the area (not here in Atascadero, sadly) and we even experienced a sudden cloudburst at the bus stop in SLO. After my workout, I noticed some interesting clouds & snapped this shot:

Today it's windy & cool like the breeze is coming off an iceberg! All those rain clouds from yesterday have blown away and the remaining clouds are getting scattered in the sky. I caught this shot while I walked up to get my mail:

Never a dull sky moment around here!

Haven

Tonight my mom and I went to dinner at Haven in downtown Atascadero. We've wanted to eat there for months, and finally had the opportunity to do so.

Haven1
The wine bar is really nice inside with lots of warm wood and lovely art work on the walls. It's so welcoming and relaxing. They have a patio outside also, but it was a bit too cold for that, so we just stayed indoors.

Haven2
We each had a glass of the house Chardonnay and the turkey panini. The wine was nice and smooth (wish I could remember what kind it was), and the sandwich was delicious as well as the salad that accompanied it.

We had a wonderful dinner and have plans to return, perhaps for lunch or happy hour!

Teaser Tuesday: The Fox Inheritance by Mary E. Pearson

Fox

My teaser this week is from page The Fox Inheritance by Mary E. Pearson. I loved The Adoration of Jenna Fox, so I'm excited to be reading the sequel and hope there are many more books in this series to come!

"Locke," she whispers into my ear. "Oh, no. No. Locke." I think she is finally reaching out to me, and I feel a surge inside, be then she pushes me away. She shakes her head, her eyes focused somewhere behind me. An icy chill tingles across the back of my neck, and I slowly turn around.
