Teaser Tuesday: Unwind by Neal Shusterman
November 23, 2010
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
-
Grab your current read
-
Open to a random page
-
Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
-
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
-
Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
My teaser this week comes from one of my long-ago spontaneously purchased TBRs: Unwind by Neal Shusterman. The concept is interesting in a really scary way: Sometime in the future, all human life is deemed sacred and protected from the moment of conception. However, between the ages of 13 and 18, parents (or the state, if the child is a ward of the state) can choose to "unwind" their child, whereby the child's organs will be donated to others, so technically the child doesn't really "die", but will live on in others. Creepy, right? Anyway, I'm just about a quarter of the way through it, and am really enjoying it! Here's my teasers from page 166:And then Hayden says, At least dying's better than being unwound. Or is it? Let's take a poll - would you rather die, or be unwound?"
Happy Tuesday and Happy Thanksgiving to all those readers in the States!
