New Beginings #6
February 24, 2010
1. Health and Fitness
o Get down to size 12 (currently at 16). No change here.
· Try three new recipes per month (one of which will be vegetarian). Nothing new this past week due to attending my cousin’s wedding (see below) and spending time with visiting relatives.
o Hit the gym four days per week. I’ve made it only three days per week the past two weeks, but those three days per week were with my trainer, so they were VERY good workouts!
2. Writing
o Write 1st draft of book 1 of Falcon's Gate Trilogy. No work done on this yet.
o Write 1st draft of book 2 of Falcon's Gate Trilogy during NaNoWriMo. Begins November 1st and continues through November 30th.
o Write some poetry. No poetry this week.
3. Photography
o Take more artistic photos. Took a ton of photos at my cousin Jessica’s wedding on Saturday - some of which were quite artistic, if I do say so myself! You can see the set here. Enjoy!
o Spend more time composing photos rather than just “point and shoot”. I did some composing while taking pictures at the wedding and also got some good shots of my newly-blooming daffodils (which I'll post soon!)!
o Go "old school": take some pictures using film with manual 35mm camera. I need to take my roll of film down to be processed and see if anything at all came of it.
4. Homefront
o Organize stuff. This is a work in progress, for sure!
o Reduce clutter. Actually I managed to increase my clutter by buying three new magazines! However I do plan to discard them immediately after reading them (I’ll probably take them to work as I’m sure there are some ladies there who would enjoy reading them.).
o Work on landscaping project(s). Because this has become a much larger project than anticipated, there’s a chance we might end up hiring it done. The ENTIRE backyard has been destroyed by the storms last week and our attempts to keep the water away from the house, so a professional landscaper may be our only option.
5. Fun Stuff Haven’t done a single thing on this list yet.
o Go to the beach more often.
o Learn to surf (or at least body board).
o Get new ink.
Teaser Tuesday: Heat Wave by Richard Castle
February 23, 2010
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
-
Grab your current read
-
Open to a random page
-
Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
-
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
-
Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
My teaser this week comes from page 22 of Heat Wave by Richard Castle. Well, sort of. Richard Castle himself is a character in an ABC TV show called Castle – a show which I really love and enjoy, but rarely get to see because it’s on WAY too late for me to watch. When I heard Castle the “author” was releasing a book, I thought it might be a fun read (and so did many other people as I spent several weeks on the hold list for this book at the library!) and so far it is! It’s also a very thin book and I’m sure I’ll be a quick read.
"Come on, Detective, people say they're going to kill people all the time."
"And sometimes they do it."

Rainbow Pizza
February 15, 2010
I've made this veggie pizza before, but it's been a long time and it just sounded really yummy right now. The recipe is from the September 2007 issue of Greens (which was actually Vegetarian Times magazine in disguise, sneaky bastards!), but you can also find it on-line here. I made a couple changes to the recipe - substituting a red pepper for an orange one and using only yellow cherry tomatoes instead of yellow AND red, mostly for the sake of my budget - but it didn't make it any less delicious!
New Beginnings #5
February 10, 2010
1. Health and Fitness
o Get down to size 12 (currently at 16). Same as last week.
o Try three new recipes per month (one of which will be vegetarian). I didn’t try anything new this week, either. I’m making a promise to myself that I will try at least TWO new recipes during this upcoming weekend. After all, it’s a four-day weekend, and we don’t have plans to go anywhere (other than, perhaps a day trip if the weather’s nice), so I really have no excuse not to cook!
o Hit the gym four days per week. I managed to make it to the gym last Wednesday and Friday (Thursday I had a chiropractor appointment then got a manicure.) and went on Monday and last night. I plan to go tonight and tomorrow night, but might skip Friday, since it’s a holiday, but will go Monday even though it’s a holiday, too, because it’ll get me ready to start the week!
2. Writing
o Write 1st draft of book 1 of Falcon's Gate Trilogy. Haven’t really started anything here, but I’ve pretty much changed the entire idea of the story in my head now.
o Write 1st draft of book 2 of Falcon's Gate Trilogy during NaNoWriMo. Begins November 1st and continues through November 30th.
o Write some poetry. No poetry this week.
3. Photography
o Take more artistic photos. Just took a couple shots of our daffodils coming up in the backyard. I suppose the water drops on the leaves could be considerd “artistic”.
o Spend more time composing photos rather than just “point and shoot”. Nothing done with this one.
o Go "old school": take some pictures using film with manual 35mm camera. I need to take my roll of film down to be processed and see if anything at all came of it.
4. Homefront
o Organize stuff. This is a work in progress, for sure!
o Reduce clutter. I went through a huge stack of mail, junk mail, catalogues and magazines and paid bills, tossed out junk and read/recycled the catalogues and magazines.
o Work on landscaping project(s).
Teaser Tuesday: Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke

My teaser this week comes from page 86 Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke. (Cheating, once again, and including more than two sentences. Hopefully MizB doesn't mind!)
Roxane put her arms around Resa as Fenoglio, his voice faltering, told them what had happened. But Resa didn't know what to feel. Fear? Despair? Anger? Yes, anger. That was what she felt first of all. She was angry with Mo for being so reckless.
