My teaser this week comes from page 638 of Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke.

The Adderhead was freezing. He was freezing even in his sleep, although he clutched the cushion to his sore chest, the cushion containing the Book that protected him from eternal cold.

I'm finally getting around to finishing this book (had to return it to the library, then wait for it to become available again, THEN wait till I got back from my vacation so I could check it out from the library and pick up where I left off ... phew!), and I'm really looking forward to finding out what happens!

My teaser this week comes from page 83 of Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment by James Patterson.

He reached in to grab her hand, where the shunt was, and noticed her face. He turned back to his fellow whitecoats. "What happened to it?" 

I know I had this book as a teaser some time ago, but I set it aside to read another book. Then another and another. I grabbed it again for my trip to Green Bay and never really opened it until now. Been too busy having an awesome time with some awesome people. le sigh. Anyway, this is  a really good book and I hope I manage to finish it before I get home tomorrow because when I do I need to finish reading Hunger by Michael Grant before it's due at the library. Again.

And in more book news, I learned that my preordered copy of This World We Live In by Susan Beth Pfeffer is winging its way to my home even as we speak! I'm very excited to read this final installment in the Earth Crash trilogy! I';m also excited to hear The Dead-Tossed Waves by Carrie Ryan is releasing tomorrow and I'm planning a quick stop to Borders when I land in SLO to see if I can get my hot little hands on it. Once again I'll be overwhelmed by books! Life is good!

My teaser this week comes from page 22 of  Heat Wave by Richard Castle. Well, sort of. Richard Castle himself is a character in an ABC TV show called Castle – a show which I really love and enjoy, but rarely get to see because it’s on WAY too late for me to watch. When I heard Castle the “author” was releasing a book, I thought it might be a fun read (and so did many other people as I spent several weeks on the hold list for this book at the library!) and so far it is! It’s also a very thin book and I’m sure I’ll be a quick read.

My teaser this week comes from page 86 Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke. (Cheating, once again, and including more than two sentences. Hopefully MizB doesn't mind!)

Roxane put her arms around Resa as Fenoglio, his voice faltering, told them what had happened. But Resa didn't know what to feel. Fear? Despair? Anger? Yes, anger. That was what she felt first of all. She was angry with Mo for being so reckless.

I am currently reading Inkdeathby Cornelia Funke. I've been wanting to read this for some time, but it's only out in hardback in every bookstore I've visited, so I finally just put it on hold at the library. It took a while, but I was finally able to pick it up yesterday and started it this morning.

 

 

I just finished The Lost World by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle last night on the bus ride home. I've read a Sherlock Holmes story by him (Hound of the Baskervilles, I believe), and didn't realize he'd written anything else. This was really quite good and I can't believe that, as a Sci-Fi/Fantasy fan, I hadn't read this before!

 

Up next I'm pretty sure I will be reading Love, Aubrey, by Suzanne LaFleur because I've got it on my hold list at the library and when last I checked, it was coming my way pretty fast. It should be a quick read, though, and hopefully after that I will once again have my hands on Hunger by Michael Grant, so I can finish it!

Moon Crash Bookplates!

One of my favourite new-to-me YA authors, Susan Beth Pfeffer, had some bookplates made up for her "Moon Crash Trilogy" books and kindly offered to send out signed copies to any one who wanted them. Naturally I jumped at the chance and requested two sets. Today my bookplates arrived in the mail! I immediately put "Always Have Hope" in my copy of Life As We Knew It!

Then I went in search of my copy  of book two, the dead and the gone, so I could put "Never Lose Faith" in it. It was only after I tore my personal library apart that I remembered, duh! I borrowed that book from the SLO County Library. So... I guess I'll need to purchase one now so I can put my new bookplate in it! And, of course, I can't wait for the the third book, This World We Live In to arrive so I affix my final bookplatte, "Trust In Tomorrow"!

My teaser otday comes from page 93 (and a little of 94) of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic The Lost World. 

Professor Challenger, who, with the two local Indians, was in the van of the party, stopped suddenly and pointed excitedly to the right. As he did so we saw, at the distance of a mile or so, something which appeared to be a huge grey bird flap slowly up from the ground and skim smoothly off, flying very low and straight, until it was lost among the tree-ferns.

Impossible by Nancy Werlin. (Inspired by the song Scarborough Fair by Simon and Garfunkle, the book is about a girl who has to break a family curse to save herself and her unborn child. Sounds really good!)

Friday Finds: New Bible Study Books

Actually, it should be Friday Purchases, because I didn't just find these books, I bought them! I had to take my camera down to Jim's Campus Camera for repairs on my lunch break, and on the way back I stopped at The Parable to find the One Year Bible Seasonal Devotionals that my BFF had and recommended. I didn't find that, but I did find these:

Yeah, I know the one book is technically for "teens", but for someone who's been regularly confounded by the Bible and the myriad versions of the Bible I've tried reading for decades, it might be something that will be easy enough for me to get through.  Ditto with Solo. I am DETERMINED to get through that dang Bible ... er, I mean, read and understand the Word of God, so if I have to go a teen reading level in order to accomplish that goal, so be it!
