Sunday Stealing: Parts Five & Six

Catching up on this meme I've forgotten about for the past couple weeks:

86. If you wanted to talk to someone who'd lift your spirits, who'd you call? No one. I hate the telephone and talk on it only when absolutely necessary or when required by my job.

93. When do you think that you have a hard life? Well, being poor is hard, and I'm poor so my life is hard.

94. Favorite comic strip? Rubes.

95. Have you ever broken a heart? Yes, and I still regret it to this day.

96. Should pot be legalized? Sure, why not? It's a worthless, do-nothing "drug" that many people use anyway.

97. Have you ever gone skinny dipping with someone that you shouldn't have? No.

98. What do you do when you're down? Sit around and feel sorry for myself.

99. Last time you were really angry? I don't remember, specifically, which I guess is a good thing!

106. What is your favorite male name?

107. Do animals go to Heaven? I don't know.

108. Last time you had a great time with your dad? Probably sometime in 1979 or 1980. He died from cancer in August 1981 and was sick pretty much that whole year.

120. Do you like traveling? I love travelling! If I wasn't so damn poor, I'd travel all the time!

Clean Eating: Fresh Dill and Cucumber Salad

I recently received the newest issue of Clean Eating magazine, and found it chock full of some amazingly delicious-looking recipes! I particularly like that there's a whole section of side dishes. I often struggle to come up with some different way to prepare veggies - the past couple of months have been full of a lot of steamed broccoli, asparagus and green beans. Not that there's anyting wrong with that, but it gets a little old after a while and I really want to try something new.

Well, here's something new: Fresh Dill and Cucumb er Salad! The magazine said it pairs well with beef, which is good becasue I cooked up a couple steaks for us tonight!

The cucumber salad was delicious and super quick and easy to make! I didn't have any fresh dill, so I substituted dry, but I don't think it made any difference. It was still yummy!

Teaser Tuesday: Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

•Grab your current read
•Open to a random page
•Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
•BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
•Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week, in honour of the late Ray Bradbury, I'm reading Fahrenheit 451. I read Dandelion Wine last year and Something Wicked This Way Comes years ago. Oh, and I think we used to have a volume of his short stories that I read in high school, but I don't think I have that book any more. Anyway, I'm excited to start this one! Here's my teaser from page 52 of my nook:

"She's dead. Let's talk abaout someone alive, for goodness' sake"

Gardening Update!

This week in the garden: the tomato plants are doing very well - especially the Big Beef which is HUGE! - and one pepper is getting big while the other one is doing, well, nothing.

I have no idea what is up with that one pathetic little pepper. It's not all dried up and dead, it's just not growing. *shrugs* The rest of the back yard is looking pretty good.

Our zinneas are still blooming as is our lavender. We took out another cat mint plant and put our sun dial in its place. I think it looks much better!

I love all our little statuary, and I really like these two "rocks" we found at the Paso Robles T.J. Maxx store!

Atascadero Main Street Art and Wine Tour

Last night mom and I went to the Atascadero Main Street Association's Art and Wine Tour. There were several wineries and artists set up in various businesses in the downtown area (though I'm not sure how many artists were really out there as I only saw one guy set up outside of "Bling it On! Babe" The only other art I saw was at Envisions Gallery and Dexter Smith Gallery & Gifts). Most of the wineries were new to us. I'm always amazed at the number of new wineries that keep popping up around here. We started out with a glass of wine and a rather sad little cheese plate at Haven then headed out to taste some wine and see some art.

We ended the evening at our favourite coffeeshop, Bru. They had a winery there, too, but by then we were vino-ed out, and just had lattes instead!
