Sunday Stealing, Part Two

Good morning! Once again, I'm running very, very late on this new Sunday meme I'm playing, but hey, I was busy this past Memorial Day weekend - cleaning out and organizing my closets (both clothes and shoes), discovering a whole new shopping center at the other end of Paso which includes a shiny new TJ Maxx and Bed Bath and Beyond (!!), selling my crap good, quality stuff on eBay, going to visit my grandpa with my aunt and basketball superstar cousin, and rearranging living room furniture.

I was too busy to even bar-b-que even though I found and purchased a couple EZ Grills at Target. I LOVE these things! LOVE!! They make grilling SO easy and fun!

Anyway, on ot this week's installment of Sunday Stealing.

21. Have you felt that life is like being on a roller coaster? Yeah, but sadly, it's not as much fun!

22. Favorite year so far?  1988 pretty much rocked. I graduated from college, and got my first real job and apartment. Pity it all went downhill from there.

23. Do you consider yourself religious? I consider myself a believer in Jesus Christ, and try very hard to follow his teachings. I don't know if that's "religious" or not.

24. How do you dress to impress? I don' t; I dress for comfort. If it happens to impress someone, then bonus!

25. Have you ever been to Connecticut? No, and I'm not sure I'd ever have any reason to do so.

26. Do you eat sushi?  Yes, and I LOVE it! Not too fond of the raw stuff - sashimi, is it? - but the cooked rolls are to die for!

27. Would you smoke pot providing there was no risk or driving involved? No, I'm not interested in smoking pot regardless of the circumstances.

28. What do you think of Idol Winner Phillip Phillips?? I'm sure he's a super sweet guy, but Jessica Sanchez was ROBBED!

29. Do you believe that animals have souls?  I understand a lot of people believe that because they are animals and not human, that they do not, but sometimes when I look into the eyes of an adoring pet, I can't help but believe they do have a soul.

30. Who did you last talk to? Share, if you dare. I know it's not very interesting, but I last talked to a couple co-workers. Sorry, not salacious gossip there!

31. What is one thing that always annoys you? The rude, snotty attitude of entitlement of some people who believe the world and everyone in it "owes" them for whatever reason.

32. Do you believe in a higher being? I believe in the one true God, our creator.

33. Have you ever fallen in love with a neighbor? No.

34. Any plans for this weekend? Not yet, but I'd really like to go to the beach for at least a day.

35. Would you like to rule your country, if you could? Lord, no! That's gotta be the shittiest job on the planet! And, no one would want me to be dictator of this country anyway!

36. Do you like watching films about the nature of animals? I've been a fan of nature shows since I was a child watching Marlin Perkins on  Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, and Jacques Cousteau on The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau. Resently I loved the films March of the Penguins, Planet Earth and The Frozen Planet.

37. What's the difference between lust and/or lust? Is this a trick question??

38. Do you have a soul? I'm a human being created by God, so of course I do. That's a stupid question.

39. One best friend or many good friends? I have a great many good, amazing, awesome and wonderful friends.

40. Do you believe in spontaneous combustion? Ask me that a couple days ago, and I would've said, no, but this past weekend I had an amazingly spicy salsa (which was erroneously labelled MILD) and was pretty sure I was about to burst into flames!

Stealing a New Meme

I saw this new meme blog, Sunday Stealing, on my friend Bozoette Mary's blog, and decided to, well, steal it from her. I'm a couple days late, but decided to play along anyway:

1. Have you ever peed your pants as an adult?  Thankfully, no!

2. Who do you have a celebrity crush on now?  Currently madly in love wtih Jim Parsons from The Big Bang Theory.

3. Would you date someone you met online? I have in the past, but I probably would not do so now.

4. Do you wear underwear always? Oh, yes, always, everyday!

5. Do you hate yourself at times? I hate myself pretty much all the time.

7. Do you like dirty movies?  No, they're disgusting and degrading to women.

8. Could you believe Josha Ledet was voted off Idol?  NO!! WTF, right??? He was supposed to win the whole thing!

9. When was the last time that you bought a car? November 12, 2002, when I bought my Toyota Echo, named Misty Storm.

10. Have you ever been camping? Yes, when I was young. I always really enjoyed it.

11. How many times a day do you go on facebook? Don't know an exact count, but I check in several times a day.

12. What was the last movie you saw in a theater? Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Part One
13. Have you ever worried that you'd cut off a limb? A whole limb? No. Fingers and/or toes, yeah, probably.

14. Where did you get your last email from?  Someone at work.

15. Favorite website? Not Always Right - takes me back to my retail days!!

16. Are you down with ghetto? No, thank you.

17. Will the world end in fire or ice? Probably fire, because I'm pretty sure we're going to just blow ourselves up.

18. Do you believe in the afterlife? Yes.
19. Would you be upset if facebook stopped working? Probably at first, but then I'll get over it and move on with my life.

20. How did you start your blog? I started it as an offshoot of my olj (self-portrait), and it was so much easier to deal with , so I closed my journal and stuck with the blog.
Untill next time ... cheers!

Gardening Update

Our little Earthbox garden is doing really quite well:

Both the Goliath and Beefsteak tomato plants look great and have either blossoms or little tomatoes on them:

Only one of our peppers is growing; the other is still stunted and although it still looks green and healthy, I don't think it will survive:

Out front my Midas Touch rose is going gangbusters!

The first blooms on the two miniature roses are done, but one of the buses has a new little bud on it!

In the back, the grasses and shrubbery have started taking over, so we took some clippers to them and tamed them a bit:

We also cut back the dead irises and finally hung my ceramic sun:

So far I'm quite optimistic about our little garden and yard. Most of the plants look great and are producing or blooming or getting ready to bloom. Until next week ... cheers!

Teaser Tuesday: Out of Oz by Gregory Maguire #teasertuesday

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

•Grab your current read
•Open to a random page
•Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
•BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
•Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Happy Tuesday! This week I'm reading Out of Oz by Gregory Maguire. This is the final book in the Wicked series and I'm both excited and sad about that. I'm excited to read another Wicked book, but I'm sad it'll be the last one. I've enjoyed this alternate version of the Oz books, originally written by L. Frank Baum, a great deal.  Here are my teasers from page 25 on my nook:

She began her descent. She passed the eight floor and the seventh. About a quarter past five on the morning of April 18, 1906, the buildings of San Francisco started to shake.

First Gardening Update

Hello and welcome to my first gardening update for 2012! We're one week in and so far everything looks pretty good!

The Bush Goliath tomato plant already has two little green toms on it:

And, the Big Beefsteak has some blossoms:

I'm SO looking forward to some big, juicy, delicious tomatoes this summer!

Here are my little bell peppers. They both have little buds on them, but one seem to be growing faster than the other.

The rest of the backyard is doing very well, too. In fact, a little TOO good. I'll have to do some trimming here pretty soon! Those stupid cat mint bushes are outrageous again! AND, they're SPREADING!!!

The yellow flowers are coming back in full force - they're so pretty!

Speaking of full force, I can't believe how well these white flowers have come back. I thought they were just annuals, and over the winter we didn't even water them!

I found this little fella sunning himself on one of my dry creekbed rocks:

Turning to the front yard, my two miniature roses seem to be doing okay - there's new growth on both of them - but there are no new buds! I don't know if they're going to bloom again, and I'm going to have to remove the dying blooms pretty soon.

This week I needed a break from the dark, depressing, and somewhat gory books I've read lately and chose what I hope will be a delightful, lighthearted MG faery tale book called Storybound by Marissa Burt. So far it is indeed delightful and fun, and I'm really enjoying it! Here's my teaser from page 16 on Nick the Nook:

Suddenly, the dragon spun around more quickly than seemed possible for such a large beast. The girl froze, Peter's sword now hanging loosely by her side. The dragon darted forward, spurting alternate blasts of hot flame and green slime as it moved. It was nearly upon her. Why isn't she moving?

The 2012 Earthbox Garden is Planted!! #earthbox

Yesterday mom and I planted our Earthbox garden containers with tomatoes and bell peppers.  We stuck with our old, successful familiars and decided against trying anything else this year. In the past we've grown cantaloupe and honeydew melons (which I'm sure were cross pollinated as the honeydews were orange inside!), Japanese eggplant, summer squash, and zucchini. We've always had good luck with zucchini as well, but just didn't feel like dealing with them this year.

So in our first container we have the Bush Goliath Hybrid tomato:

And, rather than making our toms share a box this year, we put the Red Beefsteak tomato in its own container. We're hoping this will help the plants grow tomatoes that are actual BEEFSTEAK-size rather than cherry-tomato-size we've been getting the last few years. I mean, yes they're still sweet, juicy and delicious, but we're buying large tomatoes because we want LARGE tomatoes!

Because we've always had good luck getting good-sized bell peppers when the two plants have shared a box, we again put them together. They are both Bonnie Green Bells, although we've contemplated getting one we saw called a Red Bell, but if we just leave the green ones a week or so extra, they automatically turn red, so we decided against it. I suppose I should do some research and see if the ones called "red bell" are actually red to start with, or if they start out green, then turn red. Anyway, we've got two green bell peppers, which is fine because we like the green ones and if they turn red, awesome, if not, whatevs.

So there's our garden!

We also got our two mini roses put out front, and they look lovely:

I'm a bit concerned that each plant has only one blossom and no other buds on them, but I'm hopeful that they will continue to bloom this summer!
